The women in my life

The women in my life are a strange lot. They are particularly detached towards everything. A question like "What do you like?" never begets answers. An avid aversion to TV and Movies. Always saying: kanraavi, ayyo namma kathene enu nododu. Oh such a limited notion of art! Or no time for it rather!

Practitioners of supreme indifference, they seem to have touched the logical limit of ethicality, oppression or self-reliance. And yet they are caring enough to pluck flowers with fingers so as to not hurt them... not nails as I would. (Call them pre-modern or less-fashionable). ...but they have got some things right.

They harbour no illusions about life...no bollywood movie can make them see life differently from the closeness and accuracy with which they perceive it, nay know it!

Like the Goddess Vac who said, from me is all, the women in my life sustain their families in a huge huge way.

"Sometimes I think women are born for just that"...said my friend recently without self-pity or emotion, but with simply a very deep understanding of things.

My friends who rubbished my tryst with feminism in college came back to me, as they stepped into womanhood stuff when they got married, to say, "no matter how much you 'do', others are not satisfied." The saas bahu rubbish that plays on TV is to them a valid and real everyday situation.

I also know a relative who is irritable a lot of the time, but...

The way she plays for sympathy through her beauty. Her appearances of being fearful and so on, always played to her advantage. As she goes through life's ups and downs she responds with utmost irritation and pleasantness--in extremes. Only she forgets one while the other phase persists. Unreasonably compassionate and venomous against all of the world!

Ugh--the women in my life!
